The virtual conference ‘Gene Therapy in Edinburgh’ took place on the 2nd September 2020. It was facilitated by Andy Baker, a Scientific Advisor to Northern Alliance Advanced Therapy Treatment Centre (NA-ATTC) and an academic at the University of Edinburgh (UoE). The conference was designed to showcase Edinburgh-based activity across pre-clinical, mechanistic, translational, commercial and clinical approaches in gene therapy which are evident in the Edinburgh region.
Talks from areas of cardiovascular, cancer, ocular, neurological, pulmonary approaches, from funders (LifeArc), as well as those relating to gene therapy vector design (AskBio), were featured. An overview of Institutional Readiness and the NA-ATTC was also delivered by Ewan Morrison (NHS NSS) and Lisa Wotherspoon (NA-ATTC/ UoE). The day was a great success with 100 attendees at peak and is the beginning of a coordinated approach to develop an active community. The meeting was kindly sponsored by AskBio, LifeArc and the University of Edinburgh College and Medicine of Veterinary Medicine.
